When a UTOPY cap makes sense
- Sport (running, cycling, golf, tennis)
- A performance cap should keep sweat out of your eyes, stay put when you move your head and dry quickly. Breathable knit fabric, with a fastening at the back to adjust the size.
- Outdoors and hiking
- Sun protection for longer spells outdoors. A wider peak, a sturdier cut and a fabric that survives being stuffed in a rucksack.
- Casual and city
- A cap as part of your outfit – with tracksuit bottoms, a sweatshirt or an everyday set. The design plays the lead role: it has to match the outfit or stand out as an accent.
- Festivals and holidays
- Sun protection plus standing out in the crowd. This is where a UTOPY design works best – whoever wears the cap gets noticed.
How to choose your cap size
Most of our caps have an adjustable fastening at the back (buckle, Velcro or elastic), so they fit a head circumference of roughly 54–62 cm – adult heads in general. If your head circumference is very large or very small, check the specific details on the product page. For children, we'd rather recommend kids' models.
How the designs on our caps are made
We design every motif at UTOPY Studio or in collaboration with Czech graphic designers. Once the artwork is final, we print it using sublimation (200 °C) – the dye bonds chemically into the fibre and becomes a permanent part of the fabric. A cap you've worn for three years looks much the same as the day you unwrapped it.
A tip from Nikča: We ship caps in the parcel without creases. If yours needs freshening up after a few months of wear, I recommend hand washing it in a bowl and drying it stuffed with a towel. In a washing machine a cap easily loses the shape of its peak – I learnt that during a week on customer service when I received ten complaints about peaks deformed “in the dishwasher” by customers.
FAQs about this category
Will a cap fit a small head (52–53 cm circumference)?
Most of our caps adjust from 54 cm; for a smaller circumference, tightening the back to the maximum may work, but not ideally. For children and very small adult heads, we recommend kids' models, which are cut primarily for 50–55 cm.
Can I wash a cap in the washing machine?
We recommend washing by hand. You can put it in the machine on a delicate 30 °C programme in a laundry bag, but the peak may deform. From our customer service experience: machine washing is the most common reason customers send us a cap “with a bent peak”.
What's the difference between a cap and a baseball cap?
We use “cap” as a general term for headwear with a front peak. A “baseball cap” is a traditional, specific cut (6 panels, closed back, baseball style). Our caps mostly come in various modern cuts, primarily 5–6 panel with an adjustable fastening.
Unisex, women's or men's cap — how to choose?
Most UTOPY caps are unisex – a 54–62 cm circumference covers both. The women's / men's difference tends to lie in the focus of the design (floral, geometric, sporty) rather than the size. If you want to be sure of the fit, check the details of the specific product.
What if my cap doesn't fit under a hood in winter?
In winter, we recommend a thinner sports cap (not a bulky knitted one) under a hood. Our sports cuts are narrower and lie flat under a hood rather than feeling tight. Or swap it for a beanie – a beanie and hood combination works better in winter than a cap and hood.
Cap care
- Hand wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent – not in the washing machine
- Dry on a flat surface, stuffed with a towel so it keeps its shape
- Do not dry in direct sunlight or on a radiator – the fabric may lose its elasticity
What goes with a cap
We don't usually pair a cap on its own – complete it with drawstring backpack from the same collection for an outdoor outfit, headband under your cap in winter for running, and a neck warmer for colder days. In a sporty outfit, the cap pairs with sports t-shirts or UTOPY sweatshirts.
