What is a UTOPY softshell jacket

The UTOPY softshell is a 2-layer technical jacket built for the transitional seasons and for conditions where only serious rain will soak you through. The outer layer blocks wind and light precipitation thanks to its water-repellent finish, while the inner microfleece keeps you warm and wicks sweat away. 4-way stretch gives the jacket flexibility in every direction – it doesn't restrict your movement when running, cycling or climbing a hill with a rucksack.

Water-repellent finish – what it means

A water-repellent (DWR) finish on the outer layer makes water droplets run off the surface instead of soaking in. It isn't a fully waterproof jacket – in heavy rain it will eventually soak through. It works for drizzle, short showers, snow, morning dew. After dozens of washes the finish gradually weakens – you can then restore it with a special spray.

Sublimation at 200 °C – an original design on softshell

The outer layer is 96% polyester – fully sublimatable. We apply the designs by sublimation at 200 °C in our workshop in Měšice near Prague: the dye bonds chemically with the polyester fibre and becomes a permanent part of the material. No cracked print, no flaking after washing, no fading in the sun. The jacket keeps its design for as long as the material lasts.

Sports set: softshell + men's UTOPY tracksuit bottoms + men's UTOPY sports t-shirt = a functional outdoor outfit. Lifestyle: softshell over a men's UTOPY sweatshirt = a layered winter look. For layering: men's UTOPY shorts as the base layer, softshell as the outer layer.

Softshell care

Wash inside out at 30 °C on a gentle cycle
No fabric softener – it clogs the fibres and degrades the water-repellent finish
No bleach – it damages elastane and microfleece
Dry flat in the shade, not in a tumble dryer
Iron only on the reverse at a low temperature, never over the motif
After a few seasons, you can restore the water-repellent finish with a DWR spray

If you're torn between a softshell and a down jacket, choose by scenario: a softshell for active movement in transitional weather, a down jacket for standing still in the frost. For most Czech seasons, a softshell works 8 months of the year.”

UTOPY brand promise: “Never washes out, never fades.” This applies to every sublimated motif – even on a softshell, it goes through the same 200 °C sublimation as t-shirts or leggings.
