Bamboo vs stainless steel – which to choose and when
Bamboo bottles are the choice where, alongside function, you also care about the look of a natural material and sustainability. Bamboo is a woody plant that reaches full size in 3-5 years (compared with oak, which takes 30+ years), so the bottle's outer shell doesn't burden the environment the way plastic or extruded aluminium does.
Caring for your bamboo bottle
- Clean the inner stainless steel part with a brush, just like a regular thermos bottle
- Bamboo outer surface never in the dishwasher or in hot water – bamboo can warp
- After washing, dry with a towel and don't store it wet – bamboo can go mouldy if left damp for long
- Oil it lightly from time to time (food-grade oil) to keep its colour and water resistance
Tomáš's tip: A bamboo bottle isn't “better than stainless steel” – it's a different choice for a different use. For daily hydration at work and for sports training, I recommend stainless steel. For camping, the outdoors, festivals and a consciously sustainable gift, bamboo has the stronger emotional appeal. It depends on what you're carrying and who it's for – not every product meets the same need.
