Why a mix of cotton fabrics
UTOPY dresses aren't made from one standard fabric. We sew them from various cotton fabrics depending on availability, seasonal deliveries and the design of each piece. Some are denser and more textured (better at holding their shape, suited to cooler days), others are lighter and airier (for hot summers). You'll always find the details of the specific fabric in the description of each piece.
Lifestyle cotton – why we choose it
Cotton has two qualities we prioritise for dresses: a soft feel right against the skin (lifestyle, all-day wear) and breathability (hot summers). It isn't a sports fabric – cotton holds on to sweat and isn't suited to intense activity. For sport, go for sports t-shirts or leggings.
Sewn from fabric by the metre – what that means
We don't use ready-made patterns from wholesalers. We buy cotton fabric by the metre, cut it ourselves to the UTOPY pattern and sew it in our workshop in Měšice near Prague. The result: every piece passes through our hands and our quality check. What it means for you: individual dresses may differ slightly in feel and colour – the fabric isn't identical from batch to batch.
Who it's for and when
- Working from home, café – comfort without a sporty feel
- Summer festival, day trip – lightness, breathability
- Travel – packs easily, creases less than stretch fabrics
- Evening get-together – a clean lifestyle look
Outfit combinations
For a cooler morning, add a UTOPY sweatshirt over your shoulders. To prevent thigh chafing under your dress, look out for biker shorts from the same palette – they work as an invisible anti-chafing layer. Finish with a cap or headband.
Caring for cotton dresses
- Wash at 30-40 °C, delicate cycle
- No bleach
- Dry flat (a tumble dryer shrinks cotton by 3-5%)
- Iron on the right side at a medium temperature
- Detailed instructions for a specific piece may vary depending on the fabric
Nikča's tip: “Cotton dresses ‘settle’ in length after the first few washes – usually by 1-2 cm. If you're choosing between two sizes, go for the larger one. It'll settle after a few washes. And add biker shorts from the same palette to your order – under summer dresses they're invisible and practical against thigh chafing.”
UTOPY brand promise: We sew from cotton fabric by the metre in our workshop in Měšice near Prague. Every piece passes a quality check – no mass production.
